Hallelujah Habeas Corpus is Back

Habeas Corpus is considered the bedrock of democratic freedom. It has been around since the Magna Carta was written in 1215. It has been the basis of our freedoms in this country for well over 200 years. But the republicant led Congress with the President’s ok, passed the Military Commissions Act which eliminated habeas corpus from our laws.

Habeas Corpus establishes that a person can not be arrested without having the basis for the arrest explained to a judge. In other words, the government isn’t allowed to arrest someone and throw them in jail without explaining the reason to a judge.

Republicant’s will tell you that they believe in the individual’s freedoms verses the government. Don’t believe them. The republicant led government has arrested citizens of the United States and thrown them in jail without charge and held them there and didn’t let them see family, friends or lawyers. This is tyranny.

But, even as conservative as the Supreme Court is, it still saw fit to overrule the Bush Admin and the Military Commissions Act and voted to reestablish habeas corpus. The vote was close as four of Bush’s buddies voted against the decision.
