TORTURE IS UNAMERICAN

Torture goes against everything this nation represents. Not only is torture un-American but also, not Christian, and definitely inhumane.

Now the wacko’s and the gullible's will tell you that torture must be effective or it wouldn’t be used. Although this is a stupid argument I will agree that torture is effective. But it is not effective for obtaining information. While it is widely agreed that information obtained via torture is worthless, torture is itself effective and widely used by tyrants.

Torture is a technique of terror. It is used to demonstrate the terrible lengths that tyrants will go to exert their power. King Bush’s thugs used torture to get detainees to give information that confirmed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Of course the information was false but very useful to the King to sell his war.

The following was written by Nance Greggs, the complete text can be read at:

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/NanceGreggs/414

“One might be easily misled into believing that those who condone such behavior [torture] do so as the result of having temporarily quashed a deeply-rooted sense of morality in order to pursue the “greater good” – or, even more misguided, a belief that patriotism and a sincere desire to protect our nation’s safety underlies the use of torture as simply a distasteful means to a totally justifiable end.

But the truth of the matter is far simpler and, in the final analysis, far more damning.

Our nation’s current willingness to wallow in the depths of depravity is not due to over-zealousness in ensuring the safety of its citizens. It is the result of our government being run by a bunch of sociopathic misfits, whose own shortcomings have been given free rein to manifest themselves in the worst of ways.”

Very well put Nance.

It is crucial that the tyrants that have tortured in the name of the United States of America be tried for war crimes.
